Our Story

The ribbon was cut on the new Nielsen Community Center in West Point on July 5th, 2008, during West Point festivities to honor its 150th birthday – celebrating its past and looking forward to its future. Fundraising for the $4 million dollar facility was spearheaded by four local men – Steve Paus, Dave Wimmer, Erv Eisenmenger and Mike Wortman. One of the first events held in the 44,000 square foot facility was the Saturday night entertainment at the Cuming County Fair on August 9th. In its first 10 years of operation, the Nielsen Community Center has hosted over 3500 events, including weddings, vendor shows, concerts, and much more!
